Battersea Dogs Home in Old Windsor, Berkshire, was facing operational inefficiencies due to two aging and energy-intensive air handling units (AHUs). These units were critical to maintaining proper airflow, heating, and cooling in the facility but no longer met modern efficiency or performance standards. Compounding the challenge, the removal of the old units and installation of the new ones had to be completed over a single weekend to minimise downtime and disruption. Additionally, the connecting ductwork was complex and required precise design and fabrication in advance to ensure a seamless installation process.
As part of Battersea Dogs Home’s ongoing decarbonisation program, the project aimed to replace the old AHUs with state-of-the-art, energy-efficient systems. The replacement units needed to offer integrated cooling and heating capabilities while saving space and delivering superior performance. The new equipment, two IV Products Envirostar Top Series AHUs, were selected for their compact design and energy efficiency. The job demanded careful planning, pre-manufactured custom ductwork, and a flawless execution to meet the weekend deadline
Our team successfully removed the outdated AHUs and installed the IV Products Envirostar Top Series units within the required timeframe. Leveraging detailed pre-planning, we designed and manufactured the connecting ductwork prior to the weekend to ensure precision and minimise installation time. The new systems, featuring integrated cooling and heating coils, were fully operational by the end of the weekend, meeting both the functional and environmental goals of the project. This efficient upgrade not only reduced energy consumption but also supported Battersea Dogs Home’s broader commitment to sustainability and decarbonisation.
