Fujitsu Floor Console Air Conditioning

Fujitsu Floor Console Air Conditioning Installed in Converted Loft Room — Southampton

The Challenge

Rob Telling was struggling to control the temperature in a converted loft bedroom that became uncomfortably hot during the summer months. With limited wall space and sloping ceilings, Rob believed that a permanent air conditioning system simply wasn’t possible. As a result, he relied on a portable air conditioning unit that was heavy, noisy, inefficient, and required an unsightly exhaust pipe to be permanently left hanging out of the window.

When the portable unit failed, Rob contacted Air Control initially to see if it could be repaired. However, given the limitations and drawbacks of portable systems, we suggested a site survey to explore whether a more effective, permanent solution could be achieved.

The Requirements

The converted loft room had very specific constraints. There was no suitable wall space for a traditional wall-mounted unit, and the room’s layout required a solution that was discreet, quiet, and powerful enough to provide year-round heating and cooling.

Rob also wanted a system that would be energy efficient, visually unobtrusive, and significantly quieter than the portable unit he had been using. Importantly, the installation needed to be neat, with minimal visible services, and without compromising the finished appearance of the room.

The Solution

Following a detailed site survey, Air Control proposed a Fujitsu 5kW floor-mounted console air conditioning system, installed neatly within a recessed area beneath the bedroom window. Rob was unaware that floor-mounted fan coil units even existed and was delighted to discover a solution that perfectly suited the space.

The indoor unit provides powerful yet exceptionally quiet heating and cooling, delivering consistent comfort without draughts or intrusive noise. Interconnecting pipework and electrical services were routed discreetly through the small loft void behind the room, exiting directly through the eaves of the roof to connect straight into the outdoor unit. This approach ensured that all services were completely hidden, preserving the clean aesthetics of the converted loft space.

The outdoor unit was positioned immediately outside the eaves, keeping pipe runs short and maximising system efficiency.

The Result

Rob now enjoys a comfortable, quiet, and energy-efficient loft bedroom all year round. The new Fujitsu floor console system has completely replaced the need for portable air conditioning, eliminating noise, clutter, and inefficiency. The installation proved that even challenging spaces with limited wall options can still benefit from a permanent, high-performance air conditioning solution when designed correctly.

This project highlights how a simple site survey and expert advice can transform a space — and how many homeowners are unaware of the wide range of discreet air conditioning options available beyond traditional wall-mounted units.

I never realised floor-mounted air conditioning systems even existed and assumed air conditioning simply wasn’t possible in my loft room. Air Control carried out a survey and designed a solution that was quiet, powerful, and completely unobtrusive. The difference compared to portable air conditioning is unbelievable. Excellent advice and a very tidy installation.
